About Dental and Medical Equipment

We supply a full range of medical and dental equipment.

Dental and Medical Equipment covers the southern South Island of New Zealand

Doug Moller, owner, attended the University of Otago graduating as a dentist in 1980. During this time he also gained technical skills working for a rural transport company, repairing and operating machinery and stock trucks.

During the time spent practicing as a dentist, Doug began training as a Clinical Engineering technician, setting up a dental engineering business initially as a hobby. This culminated into a fully-fledged business in 1997.

Involvement in dental engineering led to a number of contracts with District Health Boards and the University of Otago Dental School. Autoclave servicing led to increased involvement with medical equipment.

Accreditation and awareness of Australian /New Zealand Standards has led to continued growth in Clinical Engineering equipment testing.

Health reforms in the 1990's resulted in a large number of southern hospitals being set up as community health companies, no longer directly aligned with the District Health Boards. Many of these companies now choose to use Dental and Medical Equipment as their provider of technical Clinical Engineering services.

Dental and Medical Equipment now has a major contract with the University of Otago Dental School to provide Clinical Engineering technical services. The school has 67 undergraduates, 36 dental therapists, 15 dental technicians and 22 post graduate students each year. This equates to almost 600 people working within the Dental School on over 150 chairs in 8 varying clinics.

Dental and Medical Equipment recently installed a state of the art simulation clinic and associated plant room into the Dental School. This involved two years of planning, installing 73 simulation units, suction and medical air plant, complex audio/video communication, digital radiography and operating microscopes.

Dental and Medical Equipment also works regularly with health professionals in lightly populated areas within the South Island.

Dental and Medical Equipment services major contract with SDHB, University of Otago, Mercy Hospital and SCDHB. Frequently undergoing set up of new clinics, operating theaters, dental surgerys, and state of the art simulation suites.
